A:Yes, you can buy a single unit.

Q:Is it sturdy enough?
A:Yep, it's just as advertised, very sturdy and trusty

Q:Could i fit a vinyl in the side table slots?
A:Hi, you could fit them if they are lying flat maybe but they wouldn't fit standing up. I was going to suggest removing the middle shelf but the vinyl would fall out the sides unless you had something to hold it in. Good luck.

Q:Is the middle shelf removable?
A:Yeah. You build them yourself (easy assembly) so could just leave that middle shelf out if you wanted. Still sturdy without it as I actually did just that till I wanted it in later. Good little tables, I use mine to hold my Switch and Series X consoles.
