Q:Can that be fixed on the wall for security (we have a baby)?
A:It could be fixed to a wall, but you would need to find out the best way to do that. Perhaps using something that would loop around the metal struts and then attach to the wall? So, short answer is yes, but you would have to think how you would apply it.

Q:Could this wood be sanded down to be stained a lighter shade of wood?
A:As the shelves are covered MDF you would need care, alternatively if you had access to a bandsaw (& more skills than me!) it would be relatively easy to copy the shelf pattern on any wood you like - the frame is very well designed & strengthy, the shelves are not at all structural.
